By 2020, the U.S. Department of the Navy will produce half of its energy from alternative sources and use the energy to power its fleets and tanks, according to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus. A memorandum of understanding signed this month between USDA and the Navy will encourage the development and use of biofuels and other renewable energy sources. “The capacity for us to move away from unreliable foreign sources of energy puts us back in control of our energy destiny,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
