Beet Decision Could Cut Sugar Output by 20 Percent

U.S. sugar output is expected to decrease by 20 percent next year if genetically modified beets cannot be planted, according to a court filing by USDA. A U.S. district judge ruled in August that the government agency had not considered the potential environmental impact of the beets and revoked USDA’s approval of the seeds.
