The Mendocino/Lake County, Calif., USDA Service Center staff teamed up to raise funds for a very worthy cause last month.
The 4th Annual Potter Valley Walk/Run for Cancer benefit started in 2008 to assist community members battling cancer. All proceeds from the event go to selected families to help with the costs of treatment, including gas, food and other family expenses.
“Most of the employees in the service center live in Potter Valley,” said Joleen Logan, FSA program technician. “It’s a very close-knit community of approximately 3,000 people, so everyone is ultimately affected when someone is diagnosed with cancer, whether family member, friend or acquaintance.”
More than $7,000 was raised and distributed among three families.
“Some walked, some ran, some contributed, but it was a USDA agency team effort in every sense of the word. And we had fun.”
