The Mississippi Delta Council For Farm Workers Opportunities, Inc. held its 40th Year Anniversary Celebration last week. Mrs. Bobbie Butler (photo), Farm Loan Manager, Coahoma County FSA was recognized for providing outstanding, iconic leadership and generous humanitarian support to MDC and the community at-large within the State of Mississippi.
Mrs. Bobbie Butler is the daughter of the late Andrew Brown, Sr. and Mae Frances Brown of Lyon, MS. She is the 6th child of 11 children. Bobbie grew up on Roy Flowers’ farm in Mattson, MS. She attended Dublin Elementary School, Coahoma County High School and Coahoma Community College. Bobbie attends church at King Temple Baptist Church.
She began her career with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farmers Home Administration in July, 1978 as a CETA employee through Mississippi Delta Council. She was hired by Farmers Home Administration in March, 1980 as a temporary Emergency Loan Clerk. Later, she was converted to a permanent Loan Technician in February, 1984 and was employed in that position until April, 2000 at which time she made a career change and transferred to the Farm Service Agency as a Farm Loan Office Trainee.
Bobbie completed the trainee program in December, 2002 and became a Farm Loan Officer. The Farm Loan Manager’s position became vacant and she was promoted as the Farm Loan Manager in September, 2004. She is currently serving in this position and has a total of 30 years of service with USDA. Bobbie is married to Bobby J. Butler, the love of her life and they have 3 daughters, Cassandra, Tomika, and Jennie. They are the proud grandparents of Cortise and Brooklyn. Bobbie plans to complete her career with the agency in two years to travel and spend time with their children and grandchildren.
Bobbie’s belief is, “If God be for me who can be against me?” She became affiliated with MDC in July of 1978. MDC hired her as a CETA worker and she worked in this program until November of 1979. It was MDC that gave her a start with USDA. She attributes her success to God, MDC and USDA.
