FSA disaster programs have played a large part in Marshall County, Ala., in the past two to three years. With drought, tornadoes and large amounts of rain, farmers and ranchers in the county have turned to FSA to help overcome these and other obstacles.

“The Marshall County staff and COC members consider it an honor to serve our nation, state, county and agriculture producers with our employment with USDA’s Farm Service Agency,” said County Executive Director Zachary Burns.

The county office currently serves more than 3,700 producers and Marshall County is ranked among the highest in the state for cattle and poultry operations. Poultry processing is the county’s largest industry employing about 7,000 people.

Aside from having cropland acreage that includes grass (hay and grazing), cotton, corn, soybeans and wheat, Marshall County is home to honey bee producers, swine operations and a variety of fruit & vegetables grown mostly for U-Pick operations. Much of North Alabama’s grain also comes to Marshall County to the many granaries and barges located on the Tennessee River.
