Farmers in the Great Plains are welcoming the barrage of snowstorms blanketing the area. Although livestock may be stressed, the moisture is bringing relief to one of the worst droughts in U.S. history. Rain and snow left up to 18 inches in portions of the Midwest, providing a good start for the winter wheat crop. More water may be needed to nurture the upcoming planting of corn and soybeans, but that’s not a big issue according to one agricultural meteorologist, who stated that more rain is expected to move into the Northern Plains and dry areas of the Midwest next week.
