Ag Panel Stresses Challenges of Industry, Importance of Workshop

The first in a series of panel discussions to be held today during the joint USDA, DOJ agriculture workshop in Iowa was mostly made up of elected officials who focused on the importance of the workshop and challenges in the industry.


Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey discussed concerns about increasing seed costs, issues regarding herbicides and overall expansion of market opportunities for crop farmers.

“On most of these issues we are looking backward,” said Northey, “but there is one area where we have an opportunity to be forward looking. That is, it not too long some of these [genetically-modified] seeds will come off patent. We have an opportunity to really plan for that.” Read more (The Iowa Independent)
