Producer Sign-Up for SURE Program Begins Jan. 4

Starting Jan. 4, agricultural producers who suffered losses due to natural disasters during the 2008 crop year can sign up for the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments program. The SURE program provides financial assistance to farmers who experienced crop reduction or quality loss and who’s county or contiguous county has been declared a primary disaster.  According to a USDA press release, producers who sign up in January should expect payment the same month. Producers are encouraged to apply at their local FSA county office.

Aquaculture Grant Program Keeps Catfish Producers Afloat, Bolsters Industry

Catfish farmers in the Mississippi Delta Region hit hard by soaring feed costs have been provided some relief to stop their businesses from drying up.

Nearly 350 Mississippi fish farmers received funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Aquaculture Grant Program this year. Supported with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the program provided financial assistance during the most demanding part of the growing season for catfish.

Beginning farmer lays his own foundation to continue farming tradition

Inwood, Iowa — Brian Twedt always knew he wanted to be a farmer. He grew up working on his dad’s farm, learning the tools of the trade in the field. He got his introduction to the business side of farming by raising some cattle through the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program. Brian also attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in animal science and agronomy.

FSA Blog(s), Twitter, and other social media channels allow visitors to interact with the agency and others, and encourage visitors to freely comment and give welcomed feedback.  We encourage your comments. Your ideas and concerns are important to us because we want you as an active participant in our programs and to be well informed about how the FSA’s work gets done.


Visitor-generated comments made on any and all FSA social media channels become public domain.


We also want to publish your comments, but we expect conversations to follow the conventions of polite discourse. Therefore, we moderate social media; meaning that all comments are reviewed before we post them.  In our review process, we try to remove any objectionable content.


Objectionable content includes but is not limited to:
